What college coaches want to see!

Over the years 123 Total Fitness has had over 1,000 athletes get signed to play in college, therefore we have been fortunate enough to have a well known reputation in the college sports world.  That being said; we often times have college coaches reach out to us inquiring about an athlete that they are interested in recruiting.

Now, when a college coach reaches out to us; they are not asking about the athletes ability to play his or her given sport.  When they reach out to us; they are already interested in the athletes ability on the playing field or court.  What they want to know from us, is things like; attitude, work ethic, discipline, body language, confidence, character, and how the athlete handles stress or a tough situation.  Before a college is going to offer an athletic scholarship, I assure you that they will do their due diligence.  That being said; if you or an athlete who has a desire to play at the next level; it is incredibly important to be at your best on and off of the field, court, mat, etc.  This means; grades, leadership, practice, work ethic, discipline, attitude, teamwork.

Communication: Follow up and follow through!

We will go a bit more in depth on this topic in the coming weeks but I want to touch on calls w/ coaches and official visits.  This is your chance to impress a coach 1 on 1.  If you have a call, do your research on the school, the team, and the coach you are talking to.  Have a list of questions ready.  Speak fluently and confidently.  All of the same things go for official visits but now things like body language come into play.  Dress professionally, good posture, firm hand shake, look them in the eye and not only reassure them that they are making a good decision w/ you as an athlete but leave them thinking that you are the absolute best decision for their organization.  And finally; follow up and follow through!  After every call and or visit; reach out to the coach or coaches that you met with or spoke to and thank them for taking the time to talk w/ you.  Reassure them that you as an athlete are interested in coming to play for them and welcome them to reach out to you w/ any additional questions.  Approach every single one as if it is a job interview for your dream job!
